Learning to cluck
So last night DW brought home 64 fertilized eggs. We survived the first night and the babies survived their first car ride to school! The joke was that there were 69 babies on board! I will hopefully be putting up some pics of these eggs in their cozy incubators soon. We'll see how many make it!! We are also praying and hoping in a BIG WAY that they don't hatch over a weekend...=( That would be disappointing! We are feeling very lucky to have these eggs - our egg lady (Hi Tammy!) was very generous and gave us 4 dozen! That will certainly increase our odds for survival. We're continuing to do research on eggs, chicks, raising chickens, etc. I can't wait to hear what DW's students think!

Things I've learned lately...
Things in the foster care system don't move quickly. You can buy pesto sauce in a jar at the grocery store. I miss my college dorm friends. Everyone needs new socks. We need new pots and pans. Not all Bed Bath and Beyonds are created equal. Fertilized eggs can remain at room temperature for a few hours (a day?) until you put them in an incubator. My son is good at bounce passes. The new/old gardening center has tons of kinds of compost and they really cater to people who want to do things in the organic way. I really don't like china buffets. I can actually make really good scrambled eggs. Cooking raw spinach does not require water. Piggly Wiggly has a scratch and dent produce section where packs of 6 zukes are 50 cents, 4 peppers are 75 cents, etc. There is a fruit market on the north side of downtown. My egg lady also sells wheat. There's wheat berries we could be eating. Pickles absolutely loves the English muffin egg sandwiches we make. I am addicted to LOST. I need to tighten my helmet before going for a bike ride. The Habitat Re-Store place has really cheap lumber. Three year old boys can wear the knees out of pants really quickly. After 3 or more boys have handed down a shirt, it really doesn't look good. They sell cow bells at Fleet Farm. When you have a family of 5 and you eliminate plastic from your kitchen you wind up running the dishwasher every day. After being married for 10 years, holding hands is still the best thing. There is a unseen force pulling small toys into the kitchen so they are lying in the exact spot where I am about to step. Rubber rain boots for adults are amazingly comfortable and fun but weird to drive in. If you haven't used your treadmill in a while it could be broken. I'm getting sick of the word bailout. There are times when I am incapable of making time to talk to my husband and get back to people, which means some things don't happen or get planned until the last minute. Vanilla Ice is still making music. Some of my former students are good people. They are growing into wonderful adults. There IS a way to get the photos off my phone but it may take a techy person to get it done. Pumpkin's ears are finally clear - no more fluid. There's a high maltose version of corn syrup, but it's not as bad as HFCS. Boston Store has clothes for $1.99. Blogging makes me a little bit more sane!

MMMMmmmmonday
I need to get to bed, but I really want to throw this up here...not all of these things took place today, but it's easier to put them in the same entry...Steel cut oats, made overnight in a crock pot bath. SO TASTY! It was an adventure...have you tried anything like this? I'm looking for breakfast ideas for the teenager in the house (read: lazy mom desires hot breakfast ideas...) and this worked for us!
My boy needed a cape! I made it up...so yeah, the string should have been a little longer, but he still loves it! He flies!!
Finally, I got to visit my grandpa. It was a sunny day and we talked. My grandpa suffers from dementia...I hate it. I hate that he can't remember us. But you know what I've been realizing? He may not remember us or even things about himself, but God never forgets. My grandpa's name is in the Book of Life and God will not forget my grandpa. I am so grateful for that!

And now for the real news...
ARGH - I always do this - I wait forever to get a post up and then I don't even know where to start! So let's recap...
Dave is enjoying the 4 yo preK class. He's also teaching piano to 4 kids now!! He is looking forward to seeing some of his family at the UW spring scrimmage football game.
I am holding down/(up?) the fort at home. Taxiing everyone to school and appointments. Making requests for songs to put on the IPod and filing papers.
Pickles is in a pickle of her own. Doing super super super well in school but re-drafting her future plans. She seems to enjoy living here and is learning how we all operate as a family.
Moses, the Peanut, has an emerging art talent! I can't believe how well he draws smiley faces, vegetables and ducks! I have my baby book from my mom and I marvel at the smiley face pics she kept from when I first learned...
Pumpkin is having another weekend at his dad's house. It's quite handy and helpful that Dad is willing to take him - free babysitting! I'm so glad that's working out...Pumpkin's vocabulary grows every day! The best is when Pickles comes down in the morning and Pumpkin says, "Hi brolalalaler (brother)!" We all laugh...(ps - Pickles is a young woman, in case you missed it.) So yeah, we are trying to get him to say 'sister'....
Nothing else is really new or noteworthy...I guess...there's a sewing post in the works...that's about it. Oh yeah, well, I'm looking for a job. I didn't get hired to teach summer school this year =( I know of 2 places that are hiring that seem like they would fit my style, but haven't turned in the apps yet. Keep that in your prayers! Thanks!

This just in....
For those of you who know me/us IRL (in real life), we have some news. It's not really something we can/should be sharing w/the internet world so if you do know us IRL, please ask! For those of you that are internet friends, please email me or something and I could also share w/you. Mostly I am putting this message up here to ask for prayer. Even if you don't know what is going on, God knows. Just pray. Thank you!
